Individual Clients
Hola! My name is Laura Folsom and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I’ve been providing therapy services since 2020. If there is one thing I want all of my clients to walk away from therapy with, it is gentleness with themselves. Life can be really tough and sometimes we cope by being really hard on ourselves. We repeat messages we have heard from people around us, our upbringing, or societal expectations. Even when these messages are well intentioned or sent with love, we can turn them into unrealistic expectations or criticism that make us feel as if we aren't enough.
There is a beautiful balance between accountability and compassion, and I want to help you find the balance that works for you.
My therapeutic approach is client-centered, compassionate, culturally attuned, and authentic. This means you have the answers. I'm just here to give you a safe space to unravel your thoughts and feelings in order to help you reach your goals.
Couples and Families
The relationships in our lives are so important to us, as feeling connected, loved, and supported are an important part of the human experience. Oftentimes we struggle in relationships with the people we care about the most and need support in strengthening or even repairing these bonds.
I work with couples and families to support them in their goals of reconnecting and communicating. I strive to provide a sense of acceptance and compassion in relationships. We cannot change our loved ones, but if you are here it’s because you are choosing to love each other anyways. What we can do is identify and communicate our needs with gentleness and compassion with the hope they will do the same. As we strengthen vulnerability and empathy in the relationship by exploring patterns of your interactions and the wounds of the past that show up in those patterns, you will be able to independently make changes that will bring you closer to that shared goal of connection. By focusing on your role in the relationship, we remove that common human struggle of interdependence vs. independence, and instead focus on building a relationship that attunes to all its members.
Relationships are always a balancing act, and I am here to guide you in finding what that looks like for you.
About Me
I am just as human as any of my clients. I spend my days listening to the same song until I am sick of it, filling my phone space with pictures of my dogs sleeping, and trying to perfect my ideal work/life balance.
I hold many intersectional identities including my identities as a woman, a mother, an immigrant, a veteran, Latina, and an ally to the LGBQTIA+ community to name a few. I strive to create an inclusive and safe space both as a therapist and as a person navigating the world daily.
I love my work as a therapist, and really consider it an honor to share a space where people explore the parts of themselves that need compassion and kindness. I learn from every person I have been given a chance to work with and continue to work toward becoming the best version of me for you, through continued training, my own therapy work and my ever growing library of books.
My areas of clinical dedication include (see below for my training and education):
PTSD, Complex-PTSD, and trauma-focused healing (childhood, adulthood)
Sexual Trauma (childhood, adulthood)
Anxiety and panic (including around life stressors/changes)
Relationships (romantic, familial, friendships)
Infidelity
Military Connected Stressors (Military Sexual Trauma, separation from service, deployment reunification for Couples, and other stressors connected to Military service)
Substance use challenges, family members of those that struggle with substance use

Education
I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 2018 (Go Gators!). I majored in Sociology and minored in Anthropology.
I then graduated with an MA from The University of San Diego. My degree is in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and my graduate program included two years of coursework, and a year of practicum experience.
Prior to my Clinical work, I served as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy. While this training is very different from my training as a Clinician it allows me to serve military connected Client’s in a unique way.
